I have been teaching violin since I was 13. Nothing makes me happier. I myself have been blessed with amazing teachers, and it is my honor to be able to share what they have taught me. Learning to play the violin will teach you so much more than how to make a pretty sound. It is a practice, just like meditation, that has taught me SO much about who I am as a human~being… Through that, there are inevitably challenges that will come up… finding time to practice… frustration over where you want to be vs. where you are… discipline… etc. These are part and parcel of the path. Through courageously facing the difficulties, we grow the quality and strength of our spirits.
My teaching is influenced by the enlightened method of Shinichi Suzuki. If you are considering the violin for yourself or your child, I would invite you to read “Nurtured by Love”…. an autobiographical introduction to Mr. Suzuki’s brilliant philosophy. Here is a quote which inspires me to no end….
“The real essence of art turned out not to be something high up and far off. It was right inside my ordinary daily self. The very way one greets people and expresses oneself is art. If a musician wants to become a fine artist, he must first become a finer person. If he does this, his worth will appear. It will appear in everything he does, even in what he writes. Art is not some far-off place. A work of art is the expression of a man’s whole personality, sensibility, and ability.”
~ Shinichi Suzuki
